Happy Birthday, Dad

Written by Ann Pietrangelo on September 7th, 2007 in Conversations, Family & Friends, Marriage.

“Before we begin,” I said to Jim, “I’d like to propose a toast.” He looked at me inquisitively. We raised our glasses and I said, “Happy Birthday, Dad” through wet eyes and a slight catch in my voice. Today is my Dad’s birthday. He left this world 17-1/2 years ago. He never met my youngest child. He never met the love of my life. But today I envision him smiling with approval. Tough man that he was, and that’s a serious understatement, he always had a soft spot for his little girl and he would have been happy about the love I’ve found with Jim. No doubt about it.

Friday night dinner. It wasn’t easy to put together. MS is sapping my strength, but our dinners together are so important to me that I will nap and rest all day long if necessary in order to make sure it’s enjoyable. I can collapse later. Oh, sometimes I’m not so successful, and sometimes I just plain give up, but tonight I’ve done it.

Career choices…kids…family…business headaches….blogs…writing…the stock market (gasp!)…decisions, decisions, decisions…what do you want to do this weekend?…I don’t know what do you want to do?…that’s dinner with Jim and Ann.
